Brief overview of experience in racing, length of time and history –
Followed racing since I was a child, started out at the National stud, went on to yearling prep/sales before working for national hunt trainers riding out every morning, riding work and going racing which I loved. Progressed from there to working in eventing along with sales preps, pre training and retraining RORs. Have currently worked for NHC full time for 13 years, love helping others out in the yards and seeing students learn and progress.
A key or favourite moment in racing –
Leading up one of my horses who was as slow as a boat after winning by 30 lengths at Towcester many moons ago, never stop believing! Nothing grand but meant a lot and never gave up.
Why do you love coaching –
Being able to help others, meeting young people coming into the industry and supporting them, in turn promoting positivity helping the horses they ride and care for. Being someone’s back up when first starting out or after a wobble in confidence, we’ve all been there!
One piece of advice you’d give people coming through the ranks –
For coaches starting out – Remember to watch your rider from top to toe and remember tone of voice is everything!
For riders – keep it simple, have a 123 check list in your head and take time to watch experienced riders, study the little things which build the bigger picture.
