Those who are experienced work riders but are less familiar with working with junior members of staff can learn this during our courses, we cover coaching skills which also includes communication skills. It is however essential you have the required high level of skills when working on the horse care and ridden side to enable you to pass this experience on.

As part of the course we cover lots of ways to overcome this and work close with other coaches from lots of different areas and they are all very supportive of each other and they will help you grow in confidence at a pace you feel comfortable.
Yes, support is available throughout the course, will tutors offering a blended learning approach to enable you to feel comfortable and ensure goals are achieved. Our programme manager is also passionate about SEND and will be on hand to offer any additional support needs required throughout the programme.
Our senior coaches will visit you and provide shadow opportunities to offer you support and help you progress with your coaching. We will also be in touch with ideas and development opportunities. Along with a monthly copy of Coaching Matters Newsletter.
Yes, we offer opportunities for coaches to work with each other. We welcome coaches to contact us to join in regional hub coaching sessions.
As part of the course, we will cover communication techniques, feedback techniques and problem solving. Our coaches also have the opportunity to attend our Intro to Staff Management courses which will help them build on the skills gained during the coaching course.
At Level 1 we cover the cost of accommodation for those out of catchment area for the venue in which the course will be delivered. Coaches are also welcome to find and fund their own accommodation should they wish to find something mor suited to them. Whilst staying in the accommodation breakfast will be included but all other meals are payable, and candidates will not be expected to share rooms unless specifically requested by the candidate.
Please note accommodation covers the course attendee not any other family members or partners.
No riding is required you will not be asked to ride. However, if you wish to demonstrate for example a mount and dismount in a different way to the rider is doing so, you will need your hat, back pad and correct riding footwear.
Our coaches do not ride during the course.
The dress code is smart casual throughout the course, remember by becoming a coach you will be a professional role model.
For practical elements you will be required to wear correct yard boots, no trainers, or deck shoes. In summer shorts and vest tops may be worn for theoretical learning but for practical sessions coaches should have long hair tied back, trousers and shoulders covered.
After completing a Level 1 Award in Equestrian Coaching there is an opportunity to develop your coaching and progress towards a Level 2 or Level 3 in Equestrian Coaching (Racing). Annually we hold opportunities to gain further skills and training to give you the confidence to enrol on those courses.
Our coaches are required to keep their DBS checks up to date, safeguarding and First Aid. We provide First Aid Training Courses regularly under RSDP to allow our coaches to keep up to date with an equestrian element. Annually our coaches are required to attend one face to face CPD event. The day does not only allow for coaching standardisation and best practice but also allows our coaches to connect with fellow coaches. Outside of this we also provide further online learning opportunities and referrals for wider industry training.
Employed on a training yard and available to assist younger, less experienced members of staff. You will aid staff retention by offering advice and coaching to improve skills. Understand when to refer a coaching query to a higher more qualified coach. Coaching is covered by yard insurance as you are not covered to coach outside of your employment. Level 1 coaching qualification is the first qualification for those who do not yet hold a coaching certificate.
